Red Onyx, particularly known as Sardonyx, combines layers of sard (a reddish-brown chalcedony) and onyx with alternating bands. It has been popular since ancient times, valued particularly in Rome, where it was used for seals and signet rings because wax does not adhere to it. This stone has been used as a protective amulet and is believed to harness courage, making it a favorite among Roman soldiers.
